Research about technique, colors, pattern and meaning of weaving rugs from worn garments.

The project "Joy of weaving" is about sustainability in the field of art, because recycling and the environmentally friendly behavior in relation to the use of materials are the basis for the production of these works of art. Waste products are recycled and transformed into art. The manufacturing process is simple, with almost no technical resources and can be done anywhere. Through the mediation of the technique by the artist "everyone" should be inspired to copy and produce as such.

Bei dem Projekt "Joy of weaving" geht es um Nachhaltigkeit im Bereich Kunst, denn Wiederverwertung und das umweltschonende Verhalten in Bezug auf Nutzung von Materialien sind Grundlage für die Herstellung dieser Kunstwerken. Abfallprodukte werden upgecyclet und zu Kunst transformiert. Der Herstellungsprozess ist simpel, nahezu ohne technische Hilfsmittel und überall auszuführen. Durch die Vermittlung der Technik durch die Künstlerin soll "jedermann" zum Nachahmen anregt werden.

Through my preferred weaving technique the workpiece results in a circular shape. I explore the possible combinations of colors that are building the spirals. The choice of colors is limited to the existing material. I only use worn clothes. There are T shirts and other industrially made garments in a variety that stretches across the entire color palette. Due to differences by washing, sun exposure a.o. there are never two t-shirts of identical color. The restriction through the existing material is part of my concept. The spirals, which are created by the technique of Amish rug weaving, can be designed with adjacent color spirals.
The pattern that results from the braiding technique is more complex. As in impressionism, the colors lie exclusively as broken lines, or points next to, above and below each other.
In order to create the shimmering impression in the eye of the beholder, I have to arrange interwoven strips of fabric in the weave so that the colors (according to the color wheel) are not too close to each other and can built up contrasts. However, in order to allow thetransition of the shapes to flow in the eye, there must not be too great a break in the color changing. On the one hand, the finished "picture" arises from the conscious use of method, colors and material and on the other hand, from the combinations which results from the restrictions.
In the choice of color, I am guided by the results of research by the former Bauhaus member artist and teacher Joseph Albers. As for patterns, technique and materiality, I study the work of Anni Albers, also a student and lecturer at the Bauhaus and the Black Mountain College.
For me, the products, but also the process of weaving are art. Although my products can also be used as carpets, rugs and pillows, they are still works of art, which an individual concept and a design intent are behind.

Die Auswahl der Farben beschränkt sich jeweiles auf das vorhandene Material. Ich nehme ausschließlich getragene Kleidung. Es gibt T Shirts und andere industriell gefertigte Kleidungsstücke in einer Vielfalt, die sich über die gesamte Farbpalette erstreckt. Auf Grund von unterschiedlicher durch Wäsche Sonneneinwirkung u.a. gibt es nie zwei T shirt von identischer Farbe
Die Beschränkung auf das Vorhandene ist Teil meines Konzeptes.
Die Spiralen , die durch der Technik der Amish rug weaving kreiiert werden, kann mit nebeneinaderliegenden Farbspiralen gestalten. Das Muster, das sich durch die Flechttechnik ergibt ist komplexer. Die Farben liegen wie im Impressionismus ausschließlich als unterbrochenen Linien, bzw. Punkte neben-, über und untereinander. Um den flirrenden Eindruck im Auge des Betrachters entstehen zu lassen, muss ich miteinander verflochtenen Stoffstreifen im Webstück so anordnen, dass die Farben im Farbkreis nicht zu eng nebeneinader liegen und so Kontraste bilden können. Um jedoch die Bewegung der Formen im Auge fließen zu lassen, darf es bei den Farbübergängen keinen zu großen Bruch geben. So entsteht das fertige "Bild" einerseits aus dem bewusstem Einsatz von Methode, Farben und Material andererseit aus den durch die Einschränkungen sich ergebenden Kombinationen.
Bei der Farbwahl lasse ich mich von den Ergebnissen Forschung des ehemaligene Bauhaus Mitgliedes Joseph Albers leiten. Was Muster, Technik und Materialität angeht, studiere ich die Arbeiten von Anni Albers, ebenfalls Studentin und Dozentin im Bauhaus und dem Black Mountain College.
Für mich sind die Produkte, aber auch der Prozess des Webens Kunst. Auch wenn meine Produkte ebenso als Teppiche, Matten und Kissen verwendet werden können, sind sie dennoch Kunstwerke, hinter denen ein individuelles Konzept und eine Gestaltungsabsicht steckt.
